The madness needs to be cured
http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com |
The college basketball madness started long before March.
Here we are on the average of the college basketball tournament and as a society
we are expected to turn a blind eye to the absolute failure of
the NCAA in keeping college basketball programs on the up and
up.
Billions of dollars come into college basketball through TV
money, site venue revenue streams, advertising and corporate
partnerships not to mention alumni. But the actual stars of
the show, the players, get nothing for the most part except a
scholarship for an education that they don't have time to get.
St. Bonaventure, Georgia, and Fresno state have been caught
in various improprieties. Michigan expunged its success of a
decade ago for various infractions, yet the games go on and
the apologists, the coaches and sportswriters/commentators
only think the system has a pothole or two that needs to be
fixed.
It's just sports, just entertainment --- but its broken and
has been broken for decades.
The madness needs to be cured.
