Sen. McCain, here's one more sports issue to take up
Here's a note to John McCain. Add college basketball to your
congressional needs to be addressed list of sports issues that
includes the United States Olympic Committee, boxing and
It must be March madness or maybe schools will do anything to
win a basketball game.
St. Bonventure was stripped of its six
Atlantic 10 Conference victories and barred from the
Conference tournament after it was determined that Jamil
Terrell failed to meet NCAA junior college transfer guidelines.
The school used an ineligible player.
Terrell's teammates took a
principle stand and said they would not play in the school's last
two games because of the Conference's decision. The players
took action, even though the school recruited Terrell, whose
history suggested that he wasn't a student.
Then there is the former Georgia player Tony Cole who claimed
that Bulldog coach Jim Harrick's son paid part of his
expenses and committed academic fraud. All in the name of
winning. That's being investigated and there is more all over the
Colleges and universities are supposed to be learning
institutions. Someone like senator McCain should remind them
learning, not basketball is the priority.
