• Chicago rolled out the red carpet for the Democratic Party National Convention held this week at the United Center. Just landing safely at the airport was an adventure for the Democratic delegates. All weekend thunderstorms, hailstorms and high winds pounded Chicago, delaying hundreds of murders.
• The United Center in Chicago is encircled by a large wall to protect the Democratic Convention from street chaos. On Friday before the convention, 20 people were shot and 4 murdered in Chicago. VP candidate Tim Walz heard the news and decided to stay behind and address the conference via Zoom.
• The Democratic Convention was gaveled to order Monday with all four broadcast networks and three major cable news channels covering the action live. It’s fun. The first headline speaker of the week last night was President Biden, who accepted the party’s nomination before being ushered offstage.

• Donald Trump kept up the persona political attacks on Kamala Harris at his rally Saturday in Pennsylvania. When he went over the top and described Kamala as a communist, I think young Americans had to look it up. Communism sounds good on paper, unless you’re reading a history book.
• JD Vance cited Ohio’s contribution to the history of aviation in a speech Tuesday. The first two men to fly an airplane were from Ohio, the first American to orbit the earth was from Ohio and the first man on the moon was from Ohio. History shows us that man will do whatever it takes to get out of Ohio.
• The Pentagon reported Friday that Ukraine launched an offensive that crossed into Russia. The bad news for Ukraine is that NATO countries are cutting down on their military support. It was announced Saturday that Germany is pulling out of Ukraine, which is historically the first sign of winter.
