• Variety reports ESPN executives are preparing to issue layoffs due to lower ratings and reduced advertising revenue. They lost viewers due to ESPN's strident woke stance and now on-air anchors will be asked to take huge pay cuts. Maybe they should have told us the scores instead of their pronouns.
• Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot broke ranks and ripped Chicago street criminals Friday. Last week I saw all the mayhem on Chicago local news during my layover at O'Hare. If watching the local news in Chicago taught me anything it's to stay away from people with blurred faces, they're nothing but trouble.
• PETA announced it's opposed to New York Mayor Eric Adams's move to hire a Rat Czar to help exterminate the vermin. Animal lovers have to be on the watch all the time. My Episcopal Church billboard this week reads Blessing of the Animals Sunday Followed by a Barbecue on the Church Patio.
• Business Insider interviewed CEOs of the five largest banks who see either a looming recession or widespread job cuts. This week, the cable news channels are firing more people than Disney. The difference is, one is an exaggerated fantasyland which is run by cartoon rodents, and the other is Disney.
• CNN CEO Chris Licht warned the newsroom staffers and on-air talent that changes are coming as CNN will be pivoting from opinion to straight news. Sure enough on Monday Don Lemon was shown the door at CNN, and the doorknob hit him in the ass on the way out. The good news is he liked it.
• Hollywood writers last week voted to strike if negotiations with producers fail, which could delay movie productions. The good news for the crew of the movie Rust is that all charges were dropped against Alec Baldwin Friday. The bad news for the cast and crew of Rust is that shooting resumes soon.
