Since the Oct. 7th slaughter of Jewish civilians by the terror group Hamas, there have been some Jewish voices in popular American culture that have spoken up in support of Israel. But not nearly enough. The Creative Community for Peace put out an open letter on Oct. 12th signed by over 700 people from the entertainment industry, including actors Gal Gadot, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Douglas and Jerry Seinfeld, in support of Israel in its conflict with Hamas. The signatories included many non-Jewish celebrities as well.
CCFP, a non-profit entertainment industry organization, said the letter was the first of its kind and "a call from the entertainment industry unequivocally voicing support for Israel and condemning Hamas' terrorism." The letter said in part, "This is terrorism. This is evil. There is no justification or rationalization for Hamas' actions. These are barbaric acts of terrorism that must be called out by everyone." The letter also urges people to remember "the horrific images that came out of Israel."
This is encouraging; however it didn't go far enough in my opinion. I wished it had said that it was supporting Israel in the compete eradication of Hamas and any other Islamic terrorist groups who have called for the annihilation of the Jewish people. The evil must be destroyed once and for all if Israel is to exist. That's what needed to be stressed in the letter, but don't get me wrong, I am thankful that there are still some in the entertainment world who possess a moral compass that works.
Haim Saban, the producer and businessman behind the Power Rangers, said, "we in the Hollywood community and around the world must stand with Israel as it defends itself against a terrorist regime in Gaza that seeks Israel's destruction."
The letter also called for the return of the more than 200 hostages being held by Hamas. As the days went on, the total number of signers grew to more than 2,000 + including Jason Alexander, Billy Crystal, Mayim Bialik, and many others. Great that they signed on, I wish more of them got in front of the cameras on television and on the social media sites and said something to America in defense of the Jewish antisemitism that is so prevalent now.
I actually went down the list of the signatories to the letter on the CCFP web site and interestingly there are many high profile Jewish celebrities and studio honchos that are missing. Where is Barbra Streisand? Where is Jeffery Katzenberg, Stephen Spielberg, Michael Eisner, and David Geffen? Rob Reiner, Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, and Elliot Gould, where are you? Judge Judy Sheindlin, you made a fortune on TV, why aren't you calling for justice for the Jewish people?
Why aren't these big shot libs speaking up against the evils that are being committed on Jewish people? Many of them had no problem in support of Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA rioters a few years ago. Where are their voices now?
It's bad enough that Jewish politicians like New York Sen. Chuck Schumer can't give whole-hearted support to Israel. Schumer is a phony self-serving liar. He has no moral or ethical core. But there are so many influential Jewish leaders in this country that should be speaking out at this crucial time. I don't hear the woke business leaders taking a stand as so many of them do for the far-left causes. Are they scared to show their faces? Or are they secretly in agreement with the Islamic terrorists?
I only know this, there has never been a time in modern memory where so much Jewish hatred has been on display around the world. If the Jewish leaders in business, academia, and entertainment don't stand up for Israel and the Jewish people now, there very well might not be another opportunity.
