If you watched or know anything about last week's DNC coronation of Kamala Harris in Chicago, you saw that, once again, the Democrat Party has pretended to be the all American middle class traditional values party. Just regular folks. The Harris campaign is running as if they are conservatives, they're into football, country music, and eating tacos.

Her running mate, Tim Walz, boasts that he served in the National Guard, and was a high school coach, goes hunting and fishing, and well, just epitomizes everything you would expect from a middle-aged, midwestern American white guy.

Meanwhile, Kamala has taken some of Trump's key policy ideas and attempted to make them her own. She is, all of a sudden, for tough policing, just like Trump. She will have no tax on tips, just like Trump. And just this past Monday the far-left Axios is spreading the absurd lie Vice President Harris is now in favor of completing former President Trump's southern border wall.

This is what the Democrats do, they fake who they are. They play at being moderate until they get into office, and once in, they unleash their far-left agenda. It amazes me how many voters fall for this stuff. The truth is that Kamala Harris' history has been as a far left progressive. Now she is attempting to portray herself as a moderate.

She has been side by side with Biden for almost 4 years and has participated on every major decision that has come out of the White House during that time. She and the Democrats are pretending now that she wasn't there, and she is something altogether new. A breath of fresh air. The problem is this breath of fresh air has the stink of the Biden legacy all over it.

But every now and then a bit of truth leaks out. Like this week, on the third anniversary of the botched and disastrous American withdrawal from Afghanistan that killed 13 Americans, stranded hundreds more and handed the country off to the terrorists. It was one of the worst foreign policy blunders in our history and a disgrace. It showed the world how weak our leadership is and it gave our enemies the go ahead to do whatever they wanted. Putin invaded Ukraine, China was emboldened, and ISIS took over Afghanistan and all the weaponry we left behind, millions of dollars' worth.

On Monday, the official anniversary of that horrible American retreat, Kamala issued a statement that said, "Today and every day I mourn and honor them (the 13 who were killed)." But then she went on to say, "As I have said, President Biden made the courageous and right decision to end America's longest war." So she defends the withdrawal, the worst decision of the entire Biden administration and, by the way, one that she was a party to as well.

No clear thinking reasonable person believes that that decision was right. Biden and Harris ignored the advice of just about all of their military advisers. They were told that a date-certain, total retreat would likely result in the collapse of the Afghan government and a Taliban takeover. And that's exactly what happened.

She has been hiding from the press, avoiding answering questions and not doing any interviews. This is what the Democrats did with Biden in 2919, kept him out of the public eye, down in his basement. The trick worked then because of Coved, but Kamala has no excuse for doing this other than she and they know she isn't up to answering tough questions regarding her record as vice president and her policy views.

As I write this column, it appears she has been shamed into finally agreeing to do an interview. But it is about as safe an interview as it could get. It will be with Dana Bash on CNN Thursday evening. She won't be doing it alone; she will be with Tim Walz at her side. And the interview will be pre recorded, not live. Will CNN edit out any Kamala flubs?

By the time this column appears the interview will have already taken place. My prediction, given that Dana Bash and CNN are in her corner and the fact that the thing will be pretaped, and she has Walz who can jump in and save her if need be, she won't come off too badly. But the fact remains, she still will not have given a real unedited, one on one interview with an unbiased journalist who is willing to ask tough questions.

The Trump/Harris debate on September 10th may be the only time Americans will get a chance to hear the real Kamala, IF the rules remain as they were in the Biden debate. But her people want some changes. She wants an unmuted microphone. She wants to be able to sit at a desk. She wants to use notes. The Trump campaign better not allow for any of that.

We will see.
