The Jewish Problem
http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com |
The Jewish state of Israel is in a fight for her very existence. So what else is new?
Israel has been fighting for its life since its very inception. What makes this time so
different is that the war to eradicate Israel by radical Arab/Islamo-fascists has expanded into
a war against all of western civilization. Bush calls it "the war on terror" and most think it
started on September 11, 2001, but it is the same war Israel has been fighting for decades.
The cruel joke is, most of western civilization doesn't even know they are at war, or if they
do, they are not taking the threat seriously.
Every newspaper columnist, internet news page, blogger, radio talk show host, and
television pundit has weighted in on the war going on in Lebanon. The usual suspects have
voiced all their predictable opinions; mainstream news media has taken its familiar side with
the terrorists, the Democrats blame Bush, the U.N., Europeans, and Mel Gibson by and large
blame the Jews, and on it goes.
In the very beginning of the war it looked, to my pleasant surprise, like much of the
free world was taking the Israeli side - that lasted for about three seconds. Now, with the
exception of most of talk radio, conservative web sites, the Op-Ed page of the Wall Street
Journal and The Washington Times it is clear that world opinion is once again against Israel.
It is also clear that world opinion is once again dead wrong.
The United Nations as an organization for peace is less than useless. The U.N. would be
downright laughable if it wasn't so dangerous. After a U.N. observer post in southern Lebanon
was hit by an Israeli air strike, U.N. Secretary General and probable "oil for food" embezzler,
Kofi Annan, couldn't wait to issue a statement the very same day accusing Israel of targeting
U.N. personnel on purpose! The next day he had to quickly backpedal from that accusation when
it became obvious that he had no way of proving such an outrageous charge. But you see, this
is typical of the United Nations' anti-Western, anti-Israeli attitude that has been going on
for years.
As far as our "enlightened" European friends are concerned, most of them suffer from a
dreaded fear of Islamic retribution combined with progressive stupidity made up of
multicultural nonsense, secular leftist elitism, and political correctness gone berserk. And,
oh yeah, you can add a hefty cupful of anti-Semitism into the mix as well.
I put off writing a column on this because I didn't think I could add anything new to
what was already being said by writers better informed and far wiser than I. Respected
thinkers such as Charles Krauthammer, Alan Dershowitz, Jeff Jacoby and Mark Steyn have stated
the situation brilliantly in their columns over the past several weeks.
Israel is being pressured by the world to halt its war against Hezbollah. If Israel is
forced to stop this fight before Hezbollah is destroyed then the terrorists win. Pure and
simple. They will regroup and rearm and continue their jihad against the free world. They
will deploy their missiles and rockets at some later date of their choosing. And the next time
they might even hit Tel-Aviv. They might even have a nuclear weapon at their disposal.
In a column dated July 27th, Charles Krauthammer asks, "What other country, when
attacked in an unprovoked aggression across a recognized international frontier, is then put on
a countdown clock by the world, given a limited time window in which to fight back, regardless
of whether it has restored its own security? What other country sustains 1,500 indiscriminate
rocket attacks into its cities every one designed to kill, maim and terrorize civilians and
is then vilified by the world when it tries to destroy the enemy's infrastructure and
strongholds with precision-guided munitions that sometimes have the unintended but unavoidable
consequence of collateral civilian death and suffering?"
Israel must be allowed to finish this thing with Hezbollah once and for all. Not just
for the sake of Israel, not just for the sake of Jewish people, but for the sake of all of
western civilization. The "Jewish problem" is every bit our problem - only too many of us
don't know it yet. How many 9-11's will it take?
