The illegal immigrant problem. Let me put this thing as simply as possible, without the
spin and the confusion and the buzz words that we’ve been hearing. Here’s what happened on May
1st (May Day). People from other nations, foreigners who are in the United States illegally,
marched through our streets to demand “their rights.” No one kidnapped them; no one dragged
them into this country. They came on their own, purposely breaking the law, and now are
demanding “their rights.” That’s it in a nut shell.
What’s to keep millions more from other countries from doing the same thing? Should all
people in the world be allowed to come to the United States to get our government services like
hospitalization, food stamps, welfare, and schooling while the poor stupid saps that were
actually born here pay for it all? The America haters think so. The people who would like to
see a one-world government, countries without boarders, think so. The far left thinks so.
What the television stations didn’t show you was the true “diversity” of the marchers
who participated in the parades, marches and demonstrations. (Interesting, too, that these
demonstrations were held on the day that is traditionally a socialistic, Communist holiday.)
Yes, there were plenty of poor Mexican illegals in the streets, but they weren’t the only ones.
Gang members were brazenly out in force too, as were many other militant youth groups, marching
in packs of ten to twenty-five and carrying signs that read “Viva La Revolution” and waving
upside down American flags.
The Communist front group, ANSWER, was out there along with other far-left hate groups.
Teresa Heinz, wife of Senator John Kerry, has donated money from the Heinz Foundations to
support the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, a radical group that has
joined with the Open Society Institute to help organize the recent protests by illegal
immigrants. The Open Society Institute is backed by billionaire leftist George Soros.
Even Ralph’s Supermarkets supported illegal immigrant day and even issued a memo to that
effect! (calling it “Awareness Day”) The memo can be read in its entirety on the internet at:
www.kabc.com/mcintyre/listings. My Ralph’s card is in the mail to Dave Hirz, the president of
the company and the author of the memo. I’ll have my bananas scanned elsewhere form now on.
While there may have been a party-like atmosphere among some, clearly many marchers
had an attitude of hatred. Anti-Bush signs were everywhere and many young people were dressed
in guerilla warfare clothing, wearing hoods and looking not unlike terrorists of the Middle
East. But the networks never showed you any of that.
For the most part, the media spun (and continues to spin) the debate as being either pro
or anti immigration and ignoring the fact that this is really all about obeying the laws of the
land and protecting our boarders from invaders. Of course no reasonable American is against
LEGAL immigration, it is the illegals that bug people. And it is not about race, either. But
the media and the leftists would like to spin it that way too.
For the illegal alien marchers it is all about total amnesty. This in not simply my
opinion, it is according to union organizer Jorge Rodriguez who said, “We want full amnesty,
full legalization for anybody who is here (illegally).” Teachers’ unions in urban areas have
suggested that children should not be held accountable for being truant. Confirming this, a
spokesperson for the Los Angeles Unified School District, with three quarters of a million
children, said that school principals had been advised to join the protests to keep order among
the children who may walk out. It has been estimated that at least 72,000 kids from the Los
Angeles Unified School District were absent that day.
The California Legislature, famous for its fiscally irresponsible giveaways to
undocumented immigrants, supported “Illegal Immigrant Day,” as I call it. Over the past five
years, the Legislature has approved drivers’ licenses, free in-state tuition benefits, and
education and medical services for illegal immigrants. The cost to California of illegal
immigration may reach over $10.5 billion annually.
The LA Daily News reported that Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has
estimated that close to 100,000 children of illegal immigrants in the county of LA alone
collect $276 million in annual welfare benefits. Antonovich said 98,703 children of 57,458
undocumented parents received Cal-WORKS welfare checks in January, or a total of 156,161
recipients.
As I said, the illegals sneak in here and demand rights. That’s bad enough, but there’s
something even worse … the sickening thing is, our government will probably give in to their
demands ultimately. That’s amnesty for the 10-15 million (or more) illegals that are presently
here — now add to that their families (children and spouses) that are still living in their
home countries and will undoubtedly be allowed to join them. Oh, yeah. Stay tuned, folks.
