Consumer Reports

Electric sanders could injure users | (UPI) -- The folks at Makita tools are working with the CPSC in the recall of more than 350,000 orbit sanders.

The company, long famous as an international manufacturer of drills, saws and sanders, says pads on the suspect sanders can break apart and the pieces can strike the operator.

The recalled sanders include the models: BO5000 and BO5001. Home centers and other outlets sold the units for around $125 from the spring of 1992 until recently.

The name "Makita" is prominently displayed on the sanders in large white letters. Consumers are being told to stop using the sanders and to contact the nearest Makita service center for a free repair. For more information call the company at (899) 462-5482.
