Consumer Reports

Duracell premieres flat battery | (UPI) -- The Duracell line of batteries now includes a super-thin version for use in new state-of-the-art consumer devices. The company says the new LP1 battery meets the size requirements of new hand-held computers, phones and mini-video cameras.

Additionally, the emergence of high-drain video equipment necessitated the research into more compact voltage sources.

The LP1 is ideal for audio and video devices and should be available for consumer use in less than a year. It is described as being a "prismatic alkaline battery" and does not lose power during storage. Duracell says it is "always ready" for instant use.

The company says the small, thin size of the battery will allow electronics manufacturers to build increasingly thinner players, recorders and computer-based units.
