http://www.jewishworldreview.com | (UPI) -- There are enough Nike shoes floating through the Pacific Ocean to outfit every high school basketball team in Alaska -- a giant sneaker spill from a container ship off northern California, the Anchorage Daily News reports.
The catch is you have to fish out the mates, too, because Nike forgot to tie the laces together, says Curtis Ebbesmeyer, an oceanographer who tracks flotsam across the sea. "The effort's worth it 'cause these Nikes have only been adrift a few months," Ebbesmeyer tells the newspaper. "All 33,000 are wearable!"
Ebbesmeyer research confirms a ship lost a bunch of cargo during a Dec. 15 storm off Cape Mendocino,
including three 40-foot containers each carrying an estimated 5,500 pairs of shoes.
