Consumer Reports

Thanks can go both ways -- I KNOW THIS IS LATE, but here's a list of things for which I can give fulsome and joyous thanks.

I am thankful I am not:
Dick Cheney's heart;
Jesse Jackson's conscience;
Katherine Harris' message-taker;
Bill Daley's hairdresser;
A Florida law clerk;
A Florida lawyer;
A Florida judge;
A Florida copy-machine repairman;
A Bush adviser;
A Gore adviser;
A disenfranchised member of the military;
A voter too dim or weak to poke a chad;
A chaste chad;
A dimpled chad;
A molested chad;
A taped chad;
A dangling chad;
A swinging chad;
A disco chad;
An eaten chad.

I am thankful I don't get paid for the accuracy of my political predictions;
The cogency of my political columns;
My virtuosity on guitar; and
My ability to match socks, suits and ties.

I am thankful I don't have to spend my days:

Squinting at punch ballots;
Praising the on-air performances of political hacks;
Pretending to believe tort lawyers care primarily about something other than power or riches;
Coaching any professional sports team;
Talking politics with Barbra Streisand;
Talking drama with George W. Bush;
Watching Al and Tipper Gore dance.

I am thankful I:

Grew up in America;
Learned young that G-d is more important than government;
Was born to parents who love me;
Got married to a woman who loves me;
Was blessed with children who teach me the meaning of love each and every day.

Finally, I am thankful for the blessings of:

Cool nights under warm comforters,
Good books,
Quiet chapels,
Blazing fires in the hearth,
Sunny summer days,
Yawning children reaching up to hug me,
And the unexpected glories of every dawning day.
