How out of control is Washington, D.C.? In 2008, the federal budget was $2.9 trillion. A mere two years later, the feds want Americans to come up with an additional $900 billion.
Of course, these unconscionable hacks know you don't have it to give, but that's no problem: according to CBO estimates, Congress will simply pile another $1.35 trillion on a national debt that already exceeds $12 trillion.
A question for my fellow Americans: at what point does a feckless Congress and a clueless president cross the line from irresponsible stupidity to criminal negligence?
As most Americans have figured out by now, the man occupying the White House as a result of arguably the biggest mistake ever made by the American electorate will say absolutely anything. There is no other conclusion one can come to whenever Barack Obama has the nerve to talk about his commitment fiscal responsibility.
Here's the walk: another bone-crushing budget, over 6% higher than last year's bone-crushing budget and fiscal responsibility be damned.
Incredibly, the above-mentioned Reuters article contained this tidbit, which can only be described as Orwellian: "…spending at NASA, the Army Corps of Engineers and certain other agencies will be kept at $447 billion annually through 2013. That will lead to a savings of $10 billion in the coming fiscal year."
Got that? Just in case you don't, let me do a little "non-government" math for you. Nine hundred billion dollars in additional spending minus ten billion dollars in "savings" equals EIGHT HUNDRED AND NINETY BILLION dollars in additional spending!
Apparently there's no one at Reuters who can do simple subtraction. Not that that's surprising. Most Americans have also figured out that they're up against two formidable foes: their own, out-of-control federal government and a lapdog, see-no-evil media which has abandoned anything resembling journalistic integrity.
Memo to the Republican party: the hour of your possible redemption or eternal damnation is at hand. We have reached the proverbial fork in the road: one way leads back to fiscal sanity, the other over the cliff to a socialist-inspired, Third World standard of living for our children, our grandchildren and the rest of the foreseeable future. This is no time to be seduced into bipartisan anything. Draw a line in the fiscal sand or prepare to be eaten alive by a Tea Party movement which, frankly, offers Republicans two choices: get on board the bus, or get tossed under it.
Does anyone remember the principle threat made by Osama Bin Laden after the atrocity of 9/11? It was al Qaeda's intention to destroy the U.S. economy, which he hoped would accelerate the transition to a worldwide Islamic Caliphate. As it stands now, he and his bloodthirsty band of terrorists can pass out the pop corn, sit back and watch, while a Democratically-controlled Congress and a radical leftist president do the heavy lifting for them.
Nine hundred billion dollars of additional spending, America. Tattoo that number on your brain so you'll remember it when you enter the voting booth next November.
It may literally be our last chance to save America.
