The righteous, of any faith, will be rewarded in the World to Come.
  —   Talmud

Dearest readers:

Shortly, Judaism's holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur, will begin. For 25 hours, Jews who observe their faith will be fasting and engaging in almost non-stop prayer: On behalf of the world at large, Jewry, and themselves.

It is for this reason, we will be suspending publication for the day.

It is said that distance makes the heart grow fonder --- but death, the ultimate distance, brings sorrow.

JWR's financial situation is an open secret. On this day of "distance," I would like for you, my valued reader - and anybody who has written to me knows that I am not exaggerating! - to consider what JWR means to you. More importantly, what the web would be like without us.

For those who have an extra couple of minutes and have not yet read the ultimate profile on JWR, by United Press International's Lou Marano, may I suggest you do so? It's here.

Very soon, we will launch a fundraising campaign to make sure JWR continues to be the best web publication that is an exponent of the values you hold dear.

Now, it would be mean of us to leave you "cold turkey," so we have added a few links to new articles below. They are so marked.

In gratitude --- and friendship,
Binyamin L. Jolkovsky,
Editor in Chief

Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur:
The celebration of the human deed

By Rabbi Nathan Lopes Cardozo

Man's encounter with the Creator on the High Holidays teaches him an overwhelming lesson: There are no deeds of insignificance. The holy season warns man that he should never see his life as compatible with the common and consequently of little importance.

Yom Kippur: A formula
for self-liberation

By Dr. Abraham Twerski, M.D.

It may be difficult to see through the delusions of control. Perhaps Yom Kippur is an opportunity to do some genuine soul searching-and to liberate oneself from the need to control and domination of others. Ease up on the control-and liberate yourself.
