If you don't have a leg to stand on, you can't put your foot down.

[ J E W I S H  L I V I N G ]

By Shaindy Appelbaum

The Torah teaches that when difficulties come, a Jew's job is to examine his deeds. Today, it's apparent that the time has come to do just that. But examining is just the beginning. Identifying the flaws and fixing them is the rest of the job.

Yasser, it's time to say
good riddance to Arafat

By Jackie Mason & Raoul Felder

The Israeli government has no moral right to allow more Israeli lives to be lost because of the fraud of another peace conference. How many more years will we blind ourselves because of the holiness of the words "peace process"? If a man admits he can't control the violence, are we supposed to accept the idea that "peace" counts except when human life is involved?

Carolyn See
reviews Juno & Juliet by Julian Gough

In a "letter to the reader" that appears in the advance copy of "Juno & Juliet," esteemed editor Nan Talese suggests that Julian Gough is "fully comparable to Roddy Doyle." She is much too modest about this new author of hers: Julian Gough is like Roddy Doyle in an extremely good mood, and there's a world of difference in that.
