‘Capitol Offense’

http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com | Our leaders in Washington recently added a huge chunk of change for hovercraft development in Toledo, Ohio. And for those of you who don't know a hovercraft, it is a really fancy, high-tech boat that glides over water.

NOW, THIS PARTICULAR congressionally funded hovercraft's purpose is to shuttle residents between Toledo, Ohio, and Windsor, Ontario. Now, call me crazy, but let's ask this question: Why is your run of the mill ferry out of the question here? Is it because Toledo residents need to get to the casinos in Windsor, Ontario, which is known for faster than average ferries than they would allow?

And just how much does this heinous hovercraft project cost you, the taxpayer?

Believe it or not, $750,000.

But it gets even better. In October 2002, there was a report that showed that the Toledo Lucas County Port Authority said that the hovercraft won't even be purchased by them until the agency renovates a marina into an entertainment district and builds a ferry terminal. So not only are your tax dollars going to transport people between Toledo, Ohio, and Canada, but it's still only a hypothetical project.

So, Washington, I have got a hypothetical for you: How about you laying off our money and giving it away to heinous hovercraft projects that are still years away from being completed?
