Haven't done a "laundry lister" in a while. Here goes:
•
I'm old enough to remember when hippies would stick flowers into gun barrels and tell us to "give peace a chance." Just for the record, those were American gun barrels. I suspect such an attempt to do so with any of our adversaries past or present would require the "clearing" of their gun barrels first after which "rest in peace" might be a more appropriate slogan. That Barack Obama's nuclear policy is the equivalent of such naive nonsense ought to infuriate every thinking American.
•
as temporarily painful as it would be, I'm beginning to believe declaring bankruptcy is the most effective way to deal with out-of-control public service unions, and their budget-busting contracts. States cannot legally declare bankruptcy. But municipalities can. Bankruptcy and the resultant nullification of union contracts would be precisely that head-smacking reality check that many of these unions need and deserve.
How "nice" are some of these blood-suckers? In New Jersey, a memo passed around by the Bergen County Teachers Union to its members hoped that newly-elected Governor Chris Christie be "taken" by the Lord so they still can get scheduled raises, even as the economy for private sector workers in that state continues to tank.
•
speaking of blood-suckers, last week's fraternity party masquerading as an inquiry into the financial meltdown of 2008, revealed that such "stalwarts" as former Citigroup CEO Charles Prince, former Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, and former fed Chief Alan Greenspan believe they are not directly to blame for the devastation because "nobody saw it coming." The fact that all three were paid millions precisely to assess and manage risk is apparently irrelevant.
An unfortunate reality check for ordinary Americans: our economy was destroyed by a combination of incredibly rich and well-connected businessmen and their political enablers. That means only one thing: every one of them will get away with it. Even worse, by virtually eliminating the distinction between a genuine free-market system and one infested with crony capitalists, they have aided and abetted America's descent into socialism.
•
Last week on Larry King Live, Jane Fonda declared that she was the victim of a "right-wing myth" regarding her Vietnam war protests. Of course she was. It was right-wingers who got her to pose for a picture sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun in 1972. "There are some people who are like stuck there, you know, they're still stuck in the past," said Hanoi Jane. Some of them are stuck in the ground, Ms. Fonda. Hope they haunt your dreams every night for the rest of your traitorous life.
•
CBS is reporting that gas prices may once again spike to over four bucks-a-gallon this summer. By British standards, that's nothing. Their gas prices just hit nine bucks-a-gallon. Why are the prices so much higher in Britain? Taxes, which are vitally necessary to finance an ever-expanding welfare state including such things as national health care.
Remember that the next time you hear Democrats and the Obama administration telling us they intend to make America "more like Europe."
•
the Obama administration has announced they will remove terms like "Islamic radicalism" from a document outlining national security strategies. This is apparently the sequel to replacing the phrases "war on terror" and "suicide bombing" with "overseas contingency operation" and "man-caused disasters," respectively. This is standard operating procedure for liberals who continue to believe that reality itself can be altered simply by changing the vocabulary used to express it.
Question: who exactly is killing our troops in Afghanistan, Mr. President?
•
in a related development, al Qaeda is threatening to bomb the World Cup matches in South Africa, warning that "hundreds" could be killed.
If such an atrocity were to happen, one could envision a statement by the Obama administration in keeping with the above-mentioned guidelines: "we condemn the latest man-caused disaster by unnameable adversaries tangentially related to our overseas contingency operation."
•
lastly, the 2010 Annual Survey of American Jewish Opinion found that 55 percent of American Jews approve of Obama's "handling of U.S.-Israeli relations."
For those 55 percent a simple question: whatever happened to "never again?"
