The 117 year-old company best known for its matzah, canned kosher chicken soup and jarred gefilte fish preserved in goo is setting its sights on a new demographic: Heavy metal enthusiasts.
No, really.
On the second night of Passover, around Seder time, when Jews will be re-enacting the Exodus story, the VH1 Classic network will be airing "Matzo and Metal: A Very Classic Passover."
The B. Manischewitz Company is sponsoring and provided food for the hour-long special, which will focus on Passover and musical memories of a group of Jewish heavy metal icons and includes a "model Seder."
The show is hosted by the tattooed Twisted Sister Dee Snider, whose father is Jewish but who has publicly identified himself as Christian. Others participants, described by the network as "heavy metal and hard rock artists who happen to be Jewish," include Scott Ian of Anthrax, Leslie West of Mountain and Snider's Twisted bandmate JJ French.
Attempts to reach the Jersey City, NJ-based B. Manischewitz Company for comment were unsuccessful.
Is there a Yiddish word for "harebrained"?
"Matzo and Metal: A Very Classic Passover" airs Sunday, April 24th at 7 p.m. ET
